Ergonomics

Ergonomics

Ergonomics is the study of human capabilities and limitations when working and of the optimum mutual adaptation between humans and their working environment . In the automotive field, the term ergonomics is used to refer to the optimum adaptation of vehicles to humans to minimise the strain on both the driver and the passengers. This process must take the widest possible range of statures, sitting habits and driving habits into consideration. To allow drivers to devote their full attention to what is happening on the road ahead, all controls such as switches and levers should be clearly arranged in a way that prevents them from being mixed up with one another, they should have a light action and they should be illuminated in the dark. Interiors with well-planned ergonomics form a yardstick when designing any Volkswagen model as a prerequisite for safe, comfortable motoring.
